I am privileged to serve as the South African Chief Instructor for Tenshinkan Karate and the World Liaison Officer for this revered style. My life’s journey has been shaped by a profound dedication to karate—a discipline that has guided me through challenges, triumphs, and countless moments of inspiration.
From the very beginning, karate has been more than a martial art to me. It is a way of life that instills inner strength, discipline, and a deep sense of purpose. These values—respect, perseverance, and integrity—have guided me through decades of rigorous training, competition, and instruction.
As a competitor, I’ve proudly represented South Africa on both national and international stages, and have had the honor of earning titles that reflect the spirit of Tenshinkan Karate. As an instructor and leader, my mission has always been to uplift students of all ages and abilities, helping them realize their full potential through focused, values-driven practice.
The title of “Hanshi” is not just a rank—it signifies a lifetime of growth, service, and leadership. Through my role as World Liaison Officer, I am fortunate to build bridges with karateka across the globe, fostering unity and preserving the legacy of Tenshinkan. Alongside my son, Shihan Chester Coetzer, I continue to mentor and guide the next generation of martial artists.
To all who walk this path: know that your journey begins with a single step. With commitment and humility, karate will transform you in ways you never imagined.
